Brazil's superstar forward injured in 2-0 defeat to Uruguay in Montevideo.

Brazil forward Neymar was taken off on a stretcher after sustaining a knee injury in Brazil’s FIFA World Cup 26™ qualifying defeat to Uruguay on Tuesday.

The 31-year-old, who is his country’s all-time record goalscorer, was hurt after battling for possession with Nicolas de la Cruz shortly before half-time in Montevideo.

Neymar’s side were one goal down at that point and went on to lose the match 2-0. Click here for a full round-up from the latest CONMEBOL qualifiers.

Speaking post-match, Brazil team doctor Rodrigo Lasmar said it was too early to provide a definitive diagnosis of Neymar’s injury.

“We did all the tests and we will repeat them tomorrow [Wednesday],” he said. “These 24 hours are key to see how his knee will respond, how swollen it will be and what images will show. Let’s wait for the exams with calmness, evaluate with calmness and tell you once we have a diagnosis.”

Brazil captain Casemiro added: “It is obvious that for Neymar to leave the pitch it was certainly a very serious moment. I hope this is nothing, as he’s a very important player for us, and we have immense affection for him, and he has been dealing with these injuries. When he starts to pick up the pace again, he suffers an injury. I just hope it’s nothing serious.”
