Bam Khatoon FC of Islamic advanced to the AFC Women’s Champions League™ 2024/25 quarter-finals after a 2-1 win with Thailand’s College of Asian Scholars in their final Group B tie on Saturday.

The win secured the Iranian side second spot behind Melbourne City FC of Australia.

The home side created the early chances but none threatened Bam Khatoon with Kurisara Limpawanich and Orapin Waenngoen seeing their tame attempts easily dealt with by keeper Raha Yazdani.

Bam Khatoon, who only needed a draw to advance, maintained a level head in keeping the Thai side at bay but on the attacking front, the Iranian side lacked the finishing touch with Zahra Ghanbari barely testing the College of Asian Scholars defence with her tame free-kick effort from distance.

College of Asian Scholars came close to breaking the deadlock in the 19th minute when Sunisa Srangthaisong played Kurisara Limpawanich on with a brilliant through ball but the latter placed her shot agonisingly wide.

Bam Khatoon continued to flirt with danger and almost conceded in the 27th minute after Waenngoen’s cross from the right found Parichat Thongrong, whose floated effort from just above the box just missed the target.

College of Asian Scholars caught the visitors off guard three minutes later with Kurisara Limpawanich delivering a deft through pass to Waenngoen, who beat her marker and the onrushing Yazdani to slot home the opening goal.

Bam Khatoon, however, responded in the 35th minute when Negin Zandi made her way into the box unchallenged before cutting the ball back to Jafari, who squeezed her effort past a stunned College of Asian Scholars keeper Yada Sengyong.

Both teams had missed chances after the restart with Limpawanich pulling her effort just wide of the left post in the 46th minute, while Zandi wasted a chance to put Bam Khatoon ahead a minute later.

The Iranian side had a great chance in the 62nd minute but Sara Didar’s long range effort was saved by Sengyong.

Bam Khatoon’s perseverance was finally rewarded in the second minute of added time with Ghanbari striking home off Didar’s headed pass to secure the win.
