Australia's bid for a second AFC Asian Cup™ title faces an early challenge from India on Saturday.

It promises to be an exciting Qatar 2023 opener for both teams and the-AFC.com looks at some interesting facts and figures ahead of the tie at the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium.

Advantage Australia?
Australia won 4-0 when they met India at the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, the only meeting between the two nations in a men’s international in the last 60 years; though, the teams had split three wins apiece from their seven meetings from 1938 to 1956 (D1).

Tough to beat
Australia have lost only two of their last 10 group stage games at the AFC Asian Cup (W7 D1) and have scored three or more goals in four of their last six group stage games in the tournament.

Improvement needed
India have won only one of their last 10 games at the AFC Asian Cup (D1 L8) scoring goals in only three of those games; though, they scored (4) as many goals as they conceded (4) throughout the 2019 group stage.

Difficult run
India have lost four of their last five men’s internationals including a 0-3 loss to Qatar in their most recent game; their only success in that term was a 1-0 win over Kuwait in November 2023.
