Real Madrid forward Linda Caicedo struck the only goal of the game in the 64th minute as Colombia edged a tight match to book a quarter-final against either France or the Netherlands.
In front of a full house at the Pascual Guerrero stadium in Cali, the hosts were urged on every time they went forward.
Caicedo, 19, had the best of the early chances, rifling an effort across the face of goal midway through the first half.
Colombia goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo then made a smart save to deny Jeon Yug-yeong late on in an opening half that saw the score unbroken at the interval.
Korea Republic had their moments, with Park Soo-jeong rippling the side netting, and it wasn’t long before Caicedo made her impact on the match.
Sintia Cabezas sent a delightful ball to release Caicedo who, after the lighest of touches to set it up on her left, powered home past Woo Seo-bin to settle things.
