The mother of all finals has been set. Brazil will collide with arch-enemies Argentina on Sunday for the FIFA Futsal World Cup™ crown.
“A game like this, a derby like this, Argentina in the final of a World Cup, there doesn’t exist a bigger game than this,” Pito told FIFA. “I think the futsal gods set up this game, and it had to be in the final.
“It is without doubt a huge source of motivation for us. We’ll give it everything because Brazil have a great chance of becoming champions.”
Ferrao and Marlon, like Pito, played in the 2-1 loss to Argentina in the Lithuania 2021 semi-finals, and both are relishing the Humo Arena showdown.
“It’s one of the most beautiful games of them all,” stated Ferrao. “Brazil-Argentina, it’s an amazing game, a continental derby. It’s worth a world title and, at the same, the entire pride of a nation given the rivalry the two national teams have had for so many years in football and in futsal.”
Marlon added: “Argentina are our biggest rivals within sport. It will be really hard-fought, really balanced, really difficult.
“The two national teams know each other very well. We meet each other many times each year, in important competitions. Recently we met at the Copa America. We know how tough it is playing against them. It has everything to be a great game, a spectacle, a final worthy of two great national teams.
“I think we’re in really good form. I think we’ve grown during the competition. I think we’re got every possibility of putting in an excellent performance and beating Argentina.”
Felipe Valerio has played a big role at his first FIFA Futsal World Cup, registering three goals and five assists. He also combined defensive and offensive excellence to win the set-piece from which Dyego struck the winner against Ukraine in the semi-finals.
“It will be a special game, a special final,” he said. “A South American derby in a World Cup final is different. I think it will be a difficult game decided by small details. Whoever makes fewer mistakes will leave with the title.”
