Bhubaneswar: India will face a test of their credentials when they host Qatar in Group A of the Preliminary Joint Qualification - Round 2 for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027™ on Tuesday.
Afghanistan face Kuwait, with both teams aiming to rebound after having suffered defeats on Matchday One.
India registered a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Kuwait on Thursday but reigning AFC Asian Cup champions Qatar will be a different challenge altogether with head coach Igor Stimac expecting an extremely difficult encounter.
“We are playing at home and so need to be clever and patient. We cannot be too conservative in our approach. In the away game against Qatar, we know we will have to defend deep,” Stimac told Indian media after the win over Kuwait.
