The Philippines and DPR Korea will play for a potential early place in the semi-finals of the AFC U17 Women’s Asian Cup Indonesia™ 2024 when they meet in their Group A match at the Bali United Training Center on Thursday.

Both teams started their campaigns with decisive victories. Three-time AFC U-16 Women’s Championship winners DPR Korea defeated Korea Republic 7-0 on Monday while debutants the Philippines beat hosts Indonesia 6-1.

The Philippines head coach Sinisa Cohadzic said his side would have to switch their style of play against DPR Korea.

“We have to play using a different style against DPR Korea compared to how we played against Indonesia,” he said. “They are a strong team, as they have always been, so it’s going to be a challenge for us.

“Every point is going to be important. If we can do something to affect the game, then it’s going to be good for us.”

Cohadzic said his team had learned much when they played England and Sweden when they toured Europe earlier this year.

“That is going to help us, because our players now understand how to play in those kinds of matches. And we are ready to change our game plan if need be.”

Head coach Song Sung Gwon, meanwhile, is focused on how well DPR Korea play instead of their opponents.

“Whichever team we meet, we are going to play our own way,” he said. “The players must be prepared to play exactly in accordance with our strategies.”

The team have to improve in certain aspects, Song said, adding that the physical condition of his charges would also be taken into consideration.

“We have to prepare so that our passing is more delicate and the combination play between our players is improved,” he said.
