Saitama: Urawa Red Diamonds have announced that head coach Maciej Skorza will leave the club at the end of the current season, less than a year after leading the J1 League side to their third AFC Champions League title.
Skorza was appointed ahead of the current season and steered Urawa to a 2-1 aggregate victory over Al Hilal from Saudi Arabia over two legs in the final in May having replaced Spain’s Ricardo Rodriguez at the helm. The Polish coach said he was leaving the club to “prioritize my family” but will remain in place until Urawa have completed their domestic commitments and their involvement in the FIFA Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia in December.
Urawa are currently third in the J1 League with two rounds remaining while they are sit in second place in their group in the 2023-24 AFC Champions League on four points and still in contention for a spot in the knockout rounds.
