The good news continues to come for England boss Sarina Wiegman.

Sarina Wiegman has signed a contract extension to remain as England boss until 2027. The news comes just a day after she received her fourth The Best FIFA Women’s Coach Award following another stellar year.

Wiegman, who took over from interim coach Hege Riise to become the nation’s first-ever permanent non-British coach, has enjoyed sustained success at the helm. She lifted the Arnold Clark Cup in February 2022, before delivering England’s first major trophy five months later, as the Lionesses won the UEFA Women’s EURO on home soil.

A second Arnold Clark Cup win in 2023 paved the way to another memorable day at Wembley, as Wiegman’s side defeated Brazil on penalties to lift the maiden Women’s Finalissima in April, which continued her 30-game unbeaten streak in charge.

The records didn’t stop there, as England went all the way to a first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup™ final following an impressive showing in Australia and New Zealand. A perfect group stage was followed by hard-fought wins over Nigeria and Colombia, before a pulsating win against co-hosts Australia booked the Lionesses their place in the showpiece match.

While Spain would ultimately come out on top in that Sydney showdown, Wiegman and her side returned home with their heads firmly held high.

She capped off another excellent year by receiving a record-extending fourth The Best FIFA Women’s Coach Award – her second since taking charge of the Lionesses – while seven of her England squad took their place in the FIFA FIFPRO Women’s World11 – a record for a single nation.

“I am so happy to have the chance to lead England through to 2027 after an incredible two and a half years,” Wiegman told England Football’s official website. “Looking forward, we have unfinished business and I know we are capable of even more, although nothing will come easy.

“It is a fantastic job working with these amazing players and alongside great colleagues. And, of course, it is very special to be able to play a part in giving our fans such wonderful moments.”
